    Original thinking

These artworks represent a small selection of the hundreds of original works reproduced as London Transport posters, leaflets and panel posters. The images influenced thousands of designers and illustrators in the 20th century, and continue to do so. The original artwork often appears quite ‘rough’ when compared to the sharp quality of the printed poster. This refinement comes through the skill of the printer, who copies the image (today by scanning, but originally by redrawing) to create the printing plates needed to produce a high-quality facsimile.
