Image showing Design for travel Frank Pick changed the face of London's public transport through good, progressive design. He saw this as essential to being 'fit for purpose'.

The Underground's design legacy includes London icons such as the Johnston typeface. While London Transport has given us the 1933 Beck map and the Routemaster bus. Innovations such as these and Charles Holden's station architecture have contributed to a civic vision of London.

The roundel is an example of early branding, which is still going strong after a century of use. Pick also commissioned stylish publicity posters from established and avant garde artists. This led to LT being one of London's most important arts patrons.
