Designing stations, building infrastructure and operating vehicles is a complex and challenging activity. Many early developments, such as the introduction of the electric traction motor, transformed the capital and the lives of Londoners. Others, such as the experimental building of a spiral elevator, were spectacular failures.
For the first time, this resource lets you explore online, the stories behind these and other objects from the engineering collection. Each item has a zoomable image with a brief caption and supporting information. The museum collection is continually growing, and this initial sample will be updated as more items are acquired.
